Singapore IELTS Preparation
Jon teaches about 50 students (mainly one to one) a year. He is probably Singapore's only full-time IELTS tutor. With over 10 years of English teaching (and IELTS preparation) experience, he is able to help you achieve your IELTS score of 7.0+.
4 Components of IELTS
Jon teaches the Writing, Speaking, Reading and Listening components of IELTS.
However, most students desire help in the Writing and also Speaking areas. You can visit my IELTS preparation site for more information.
Morning to Night
Classes are available from morning to night on the weekends (Saturdays and Sundays) and also weekdays.
Most days, Jon teaches from 10am to 10pm. Call him at 9768 1054 to find out more about class availability.
Jon teaches both the Academic and General Training IELTS. He has both students wanting to immigrate to places like Australia and those wanting to enter University.
One thing that students love about Jon's teachings is the detailed notes that he gives for the Writing and Speaking papers. If you're struggling especially with writing a good essay, you'll be able to greatly benefit from his notes.
Jon first taught English in 2003 in South America (Colombia). He has since taught in China, Australia and Singapore. He used to be an English lecturer at various private schools in Singapore but decided to teach IELTS full-time privately as this is his passion.
What occurs during Jon's lessons?
Because he is a very experienced IELTS Tutor in Singapore, most students come to Jon for help in Writing and Speaking - especially for Writing.
For the Academic paper, both Task 1 and 2 are difficult. For the General Training one, Task 1 is generally easier (as it's a letter), but Task 2 would prove quite challenging for most students.
Before the first class, students are required to finish a Task 1 and 2 Writing paper. On the first lesson, Jon will go through the Writing thoroughly and also go through the Speaking test. Jon will then give his general feedback and he'll start with Writing Task 2.
Jon teaches the approach to various Writing Task 2 essays. He touches on Task Response, Cohesion and Coherence, Grammar and Vocabulary. Because of his experience, he'll be able to understand what is needed for students of different levels. Speaking will also be taught throughout the lessons - Reading and Listening too, if required.
At the beginning of each subsequent lesson, he will review the written homework. This could take 30 minutes to 1 hour. This is where the student learns the most. Mistakes will be pointed out and the student will be able to learn what is needed in order to improve.
Jon will also go through Speaking Parts 1 to 3 in detail and there will be a lot of practice during the lessons.
Many of Jon's students have gotten their desired score. However, students need to put in a lot of hard work. Jon gives a few hours of homework after every lesson. That's the only way the student is going to improve.
Don't expect to improve dramatically without putting in a huge amount of effort into your studies and homework! However, if you do work hard, you can be like the below students. Here are some of his most recent student testimonials (click to enlarge):
